아메리칸 조크 - 잠자다가 당직 장교에 걸린 보초병

The new Army recruit was given guard duty at 2 a.m. He did his best for awhile, but about 4 a.m. he went to sleep. He awakened to find the officer of the day standing before him. Remembering the heavy penalty for being asleep on guard duty, this smart young man kept his head bowed for another moment, then looked upward and reverently said, "A-a-amen!" 새로 들어온 육군 신병이 새벽 2시 보초 근무를 서게 됐다. 그는 한동안은 최선을 다하였지만, 4시쯤 되자, 잠이 들었다. 그가 잠을 깨고 보니 당직 장교가 자기 앞에 서 있었다. 보초근무중 잠을 자면 엄중한 처벌을 받게 된다는 게 기억나자, 이 똑똑한 젊은이는 또 얼마동안 머리를 계속 숙이고 있었다, 그리곤 위를 바라보며 경건하게 말했다, "아 - 멘!"
