At one time I was an instructor at a recruit training establishment in Australia.
The RSM (Regimental Sargeant Major) was well known to all ranks, and struck fear into most hearts, especially recruits.
The unit was to be inspected by General XYZ.
To make sure that the CO and others were outside the headquarter building to greet the general on arrival, the RSM personally briefed the recruits on guard at the main gate. "Make sure that you ring me as soon as General XYZ arrives."
The general later related this story in the Sergeant's Mess:
Generals car arrives at main gate wearing the general's flag and stops for the sentry.
Recruit asks, "Are you General XYZ?"
General nods.
Recruit, "If I were you I would get the hell out of here. The RSM's looking for you."
한때 나는 오스트레일리아에서 신병 교육대 교관으로 있었다.
특무상사는 모든 계급의 군인들에게 잘 알려져 있는데, 대부분의 군인들, 특히 신병들에게는 공포의 대상이 되었다.

뒤에 장군은 하사관 식당에서 아래와 같은 이야기를 들려주었다:
장군이 탄 차량이 장군기를 달고 정문에 도착하여 보초병 앞에 정차했다.
신병이 물었다, "당신이 XYZ장군입니까?"
장군은 고개를 끄덕였다.
신병이 말했다, "만일 내가 당신이라면 난 여기서 나가겠어요. 특무상사가 당신을 기다리고 있거든요."
