A lawyer died and arrived at the pearly gates.
To his dismay, there were thousands of people ahead of him in line to see St. Peter.
But, to his surprise, St. Peter left his desk at the gate and came down the long line to where the lawyer was standing.
St. Peter greeted him warmly. Then St. Peter and one of his assistants took the lawyer by the hands and guided him up to the front of the line into a comfortable chair by his desk.
The lawyer said, “I don’t mind all this attention, but what makes me so special?”
St. Peter replied, “Well, I’ve added up all the hours for which you billed your clients, and by my calculation you must be about 193 years old!”
어떤 변호사가 죽어서 진주 문에 도착하였다.
실망스럽게도, 성 베드로를 만나보기 위하여 수천 명의 사람들이 자기 앞에 줄을 서 있었다.
그러나 놀랍게도, 성 베드로가 문 옆 자기 책상을 떠나서 긴 줄을 따라 내려와 변호사가 서 있는 곳으로 왔다.
성 베드로는 그에게 따뜻하게 인사하였다. 그러더니 성 베드로와 그의 조수 한 명이 변호사의 손을 잡고 줄 앞으로 인도하여 자기 책상 옆 안락한 의자에 앉혔다.
변호사가 말했다, "저에게 이런 관심을 보여주시는 건 좋으나, 뭣 때문에 저를 이렇게 특별하게 대해주십니까?"
성 베드로가 대답하였다, "음, 내가 당신이 당신의 고객들에게 준 청구서에 나타난 취급 시간들을 모두 합해보았습니다, 그리고 내 계산에 의하면 당신은 대략 193세쯤 되는 게 틀림없습니다!"
