Wishing to know how things were going in communist Russia, an American reporter travels there and interviews one of the townspeople.
"If the government told you to stop smoking , would you stop?" he asked.
"Yes, I would," the townsman replied.
"If the government told you to stop drinking, would you stop" the reporter asked.
"Yes, I would." the townsman replied again.
"If the government told you not to have sex, would you follow its orders?" the reporter questioned.
"If the government wished, then I would agree." The man answered.
"If the government told you to jump out this fifth story window right now, would you?" the reporter queried.
"Oh yes, I would." The man respectfully replied.
"Why would you jump out the window? You would surely die," the reporter pondered.
"I can't smoke, I can't drink, I can't have sex.... what would there be to live for?"
공산주의 러시아에서는 일이 어떻게 돌아가고 있는지 알고 싶은 한 미국인 기자가 러시아를 여행하면서 한 시민과 인터뷰를 하였다.
"만약 정부가 당신에게 금연하라고 하면, 당신은 금연을 하실 겁니까?"하고 그가 물었다.
"예, 금연하죠," 하고 그 시민이 대답하였다.
"만약 정부가 당신에게 금주하라고 하면, 당신은 금주를 하실 겁니까?" 하고 그 기자가 물었다.
"예, 금주할 겁니다." 하고 그 시민은 다시 대답하였다.
"만약 정부가 당신에게 섹스하지 마라고 한다면, 당신은 그 명령을 따르겠습니까?" 하고 기자가 질문하였다.
"만약 정부가 원한다면, 그땐 동의할 겁니다." 하고 그 남자가 대답하였다.
"만약 정부가 당신에게 이 50층 건물 창문 밖으로 즉시 뛰어내리라고 말하면, 당신은 그렇게 하시겠습니까?" 하고 기자가 질문하였다.
"아, 예, 저는 뛰어내릴 겁니다," 하고 그 남자가 공손하게 대답하였다.
"왜 창문 밖으로 뛰어내리죠? 당신은 틀림없이 죽을 텐데," 하고 기자가 곰곰이 생각하였다.
"내가 담배도 피울 수 없고, 술도 마실 수 없고, 섹스도 못 한다면...뭣때문에 살아갑니까?"
