The 6th grade science teacher, Mrs. Parks, asked her class, "Which human body part increases to ten times its size when stimulated?"
No one answered until little Mary stood up, angry, and said, "You should not be asking sixth-graders a question like that! I'm going to tell my parents, and they will go and tell the principal, who will then fire you!"
With a sneer on her face, she then sat back down.
Mrs. Parks ignored her and asked the question again, "Which body part increases to 10 times its size when stimulated?"
Little Mary's mouth fell open; then she said to those around her, "Boy, is she going to get in big trouble!"
The teacher continued to ignore her and said to the class, "Anybody?"
Finally, Billy stood up, looked around nervously, and said, "The body part that increases 10 times its size when stimulated is the pupil of the eye."
Mrs. Parks said, "Very good, Billy," then turned to Mary and continued, "As for you, young lady, I have three things to say:
One, you have a dirty mind,
Two, you didn't read your homework, and
Three, one day you are going to be very, very disappointed."
6학년 과학 선생인 파크스 여선생이 학생들에게 질문했다, "사람의 몸 중에서 자극을 받으면 크기가 10배로 늘어나는 것은 어느 부분이야?"
아무런 대답이 없더니 리틀 메어리가 일어나 화난소리로 말했다, "선생님이 6학년 학생들에게 그런 질문을 하시면 안되시죠! 우리 부모님에게 말씀드리겠어요, 그러면 부모님은 교장선생님에게 가서 알릴거고, 교장선생님은 선생님을 파면하실거예요!"
메어리는 얼굴에 조소의 빛을 띄우고 자리에 도로 앉았다.
파크스 여선생님은 못 들은척 하고 다시 같은 질문을 하였다, "신체의 어느부분이 자극을 받으면 10배로 커지지?"
메어리의 입이 벌어졌다; 그러더니 주위 학생들에게 말했다, "저런, 선생님이 큰 사고를 치시려고 하네!"
선생님은 계속 못 들은 척하고 학생들에게 말했다, "어디 누구 없어?"
드디어 빌리가 일어서서 주저하며 주위를 둘러보더니 말했다, "자극을 받았을때 10배로 커지는 신체부위는 눈동자 입니다."
파크스 여선생님이 말했다, "참 잘했어, 빌리." 그리고는 여선생님은 메어리를 돌아보며 말을 계속했다, "너로 말하자면, 꼬마 아가씨, 내가 말해 줄게 3가지 있어:
첫째, 너는 불결한 마음을 가지고 있고,
둘째, 너는 예습을 안 해 왔고,
셋째, 너는 앞으로 언젠가는 아주 아주 실망할 거다.
