A five year old boy was living with his mother, as his parents had divorced.
One Sunday, she decided to take him to the zoo for the first time in his life.
As they passed the various assortment of animals, she would tell the little boy what they were called and make him repeat it. After the lions, gorillas, giraffes and bears, they came upon the elephant exhibit.
"That's an elephant", the mother said.
After the child repeated after her, he asked, "Mommy? What's that thing hanging down from the elephant?"
The mother replied, "That's his trunk, sweetheart."
"No, no", said the child, "Behind that!"
"Oh, that's his tail", she said.
"No, no!" the boy exclaimed. "That thing in the middle!"
The woman was flustered and replied, "Uhhhh, that's nothing, honey!" And they moved on.....
The next weekend, the boy's father came to pick him up and the child cried, "Daddy, let's go to the zoo! I learned all about the animals, and I want to show you what I learned!"
The father agreed, so off to the zoo they went. As they passed each cage, the child would shout out the name of the animal, and the father would praise him for being so smart. Finally, they arrived at the elephant cage, and the boy shouted, "Elephant!"
"Very GOOD", beamed the father. "I'm proud of you for remembering all these animals!"
The boy asked, "Daddy? What's that thing hanging down on the elephant?"
The father replied, "That's his trunk."
"No!", the boy moaned, "Behind that!"
"That's his tail", the father replied.
"No, no! That thing in the middle!"
The father stammered, "Er...what did your mother say it was?"
"She said it was nothing!"
"Well", the man said, puffing out his chest. "Your mother's spoiled!"
어떤 5살짜리 소년이 부모가 이혼하여 엄마와 같이 살고 있었다.
어느 일요일, 엄마는 소년 생애 처음으로 소년을 동물원에 데리고 가기로했다.
그들이 여러 동물 우리를 지날때마다 엄마는 소년에게 동물의 이름을 알려주고 이름을 따라 부르게 하였다. 사자, 고릴라, 기린, 곰들을 지나 코끼리 우리로 왔다.
엄마가 말했다, "저건 코끼리야."
소년은 엄마 말을 되풀이 하다가 물었다, "엄마? 코끼리 밑에 달린 게 뭐야?"
엄마가 대답했다, "저건 코끼리 코란다."
"아니, 아니, 뒤쪽 말이야!" 하고 소년이 말했다.
"아, 저건 꼬리야." 하고 엄마가 말했다.
"아냐, 아냐! 가운데 있는것 말야!" 하고 소년이 소리질렀다.
엄마는 당황하더니 말했다, "어어...저건 아무것도 아냐!" 그리곤 그들은 다른 곳으로 갔다.
다음 주말에 소년의 아버지가 소년을 데리러 왔다, 소년이 외쳤다, "아빠, 우리 동물원에 가자! 난 동물들을 모두 알아, 아빠에게 내가 배운 걸 보여주고 싶어!"
아빠는 동의하였다, 그래서 그들은 동물원으로 갔다. 그들이 각 우리를 지날때마다 소년은 동물의 이름을 외쳤다, 아빠는 아들이 똑똑하다고 칭찬하였다. 드디어 그들이 코끼리 우리에 도착하였을 때 소년이 외쳤다, "코끼리!"
"잘 했어." 아빠는 흐뭇했다, "네가 이 동물들을 모두 기억하다니 자랑스럽구나!"
소년이 물었다, "아빠, 코끼리 밑에 달린 게 뭐야?"
아빠가 대답했다, "코끼리 코야."
"아냐!", 소년은 짜증이 났다, "그 뒤쪽 말이야!"
"그건 꼬리야." 하고 아빠가 대답했다.
"아냐, 아냐! 가운데 있는 저것 말야!
아빠가 드듬거렸다, "어....엄마는 뭐라고 말하더냐?"
"엄마는 그건 아무것도 아니야라고 말했어."
"응" 아빠가 가슴을 쑥 내밀고 말했다. "내가 엄마에게 너무 잘 해 주었던 게로구나!"

* "nothing"이란 말은 대화할때 "~에 비하면 아무것도 아니야"라는 뜻으로 많이 사용된다, 그러니 아빠는 엄마가 "it was nothing" 라고 표현했다는 말을 듣자 "아빠 페니스에 비하면 아무것도 아니란 뜻이야"하고 말해주고 싶었지만 아들에게 그럴수는 없어 "Your mother's spoiled."이라고 말했다는 조크.
