A single man wanted someone to help him with the household chores, so he decided to get a pet to help out.
He went to the local pet shop and asks the owner for advice on a suitable animal.
The owner suggested a dog, but the man said, "Nah, dogs can't do dishes."
The owner then suggested a cat, but the man said, "Nah, cats can't do the ironing."
Finally the owner suggests a centipede, "This is the perfect pet for you. It can do anything!"
OK, the man thought, I'll give it a try, so he bought it and took it home.
Once home he told the centipede to wash the dishes. The centipede looks over and there are piles and piles of dirty dishes that look to be a month old.
Five minutes later, all the pots are washed, dried and put away. Great, thought the man.
Now he told the centipede to do the dusting and vacuuming. 15 minutes later the house is spotless.
Wow, thought the man, so he decided to try another idea.
"Go down to the corner and get me the evening paper," he told the centipede, and off it went.
15 minutes later, the centipede hadn't returned. 30 minutes later and still no centipede. 45 minutes and the man was sick of waiting, so he got up and went out to look for the centipede.
As he opened the front door, there on the step was the centipede. "Hey, whatcha' doing there? I sent you out for the paper 45 minutes ago and now I find you out here without the paper! What gives?"
"Hold on a minute!" said the centipede, "I'm still putting on my boots!!!"

그는 동네 애완동물 가게에 가서 가게 주인에게 적당한 동물을 추천해달라고 하였다.
가게 주인은 개를 추천하였다, 그러자 그 남자가 말했다, "싫어요, 개는 설거지를 못 하잖아요."
그러자 주인이 고양이를 추천하였다, 그러나 그 남자는 "싫어요, 고양이는 다리미질을 못 하잖아요."라고 말하였다.
드디어 주인이 지네를 추천하였다, "이건 당신의 요구에 완전 들어맞는 애완동물입니다. 이건 무엇이든지 할 수 있습니다!"
그 남자는 오케이라고 생각하였다, "그걸 가져가 볼게요," 그래서 그는 그걸 사서 집으로 가져갔다.
일단 집으로 오자 그는 지네에게 접시를 씻으라고 말했다. 지네가 사방을 둘러보았다, 한 달은 된듯한 더러운 접시들이 무더기로 쌓여있었다.
5분 뒤, 모든 그릇들이 씻기고 말려서 제자리로 치워져 있었다. 그 남자는 대단하다고 생각하였다.
이제 그는 지네에게 먼지를 털고 진공청소기를 돌리라고 말했다. 15분이 지나자 집에는 티끌 한 점 없었다.
놀랍다고 생각한 그는 다른 일을 시켜보기로 하였다.
"저기 코너에 가서 저녁 신문을 내게 가져와," 하고 그는 지네에게 말했다, 그리고 지네는 나갔다.
15분이 지나도, 지네는 돌아오지 않았다. 30분이 지났다, 그런데도 아직 지네는 나타나지 않았다. 45분이 지나자 그 남자는 기다리기에 지쳤다, 그래서 그는 일어나서 지네를 찾기 위해 밖으로 나갔다.
그가 현관문을 열자, 지네는 계단에 있었다. "이봐, 여기서 뭐 하고 있는 거야? 45분 전에 내가 널 신문 가져오라고 보냈는데 이제 보니 너는 신문도 없이 여기 있잖아! 무슨 일이야?"
"잠시만 기다리세요!" 하고 지네가 말했다, "난 아직 내 신발들을 신고 있는 중입니다!"
