King Arthur was getting ready to go on a Quest. He was worried about leaving Queen Guinevere alone with all those horny knights of the Round Table.
So he went to Merlin for some advice. After explaining his predicament to Merlin, the wizard looked thoughtful and said to come back in a week and he'd see if he could come up with something.
A week later King Arthur was back in Merlin's laboratory where the good wizard was showing him his latest invention. It was a chastity belt . . . except it had a rather large hole in the most obvious place.
"This is no good, Merlin!" the king exclaimed, "Look at this opening. How is this supposed to protect m'lady, the Queen?"
"Ah, sire, just observe," said Merlin as he searched his cluttered workbench until he found what he was looking for. He then selected his most worn out wand, one that he was going to discard anyway.
He then inserted it in the gaping aperture of the chastity belt whereupon a small guillotine blade came down and cut it neatly in two.
"Merlin, you are a genius!" said the grateful monarch, "Now I can leave, knowing that my Queen is fully protected." After putting Guinevere in the device, King Arthur then set out upon his Quest.
Several years passed until he returned to Camelot. Immediately he assembled all his knights in the courtyard and had them drop their trousers for an informal "short arm" inspection.
Sure enough! Each and every one of them was either amputated or damaged in some way.
All of them except Sir Galahad.
"Sir Galahad, " exclaimed King Arthur, "The one and only true knight! Only you among all the nobles have been true to me. What is it in my power to grant you? Name it and it is yours!"
Sir Galahad was speechless.
아서왕이 원정을 나갈 준비를 하고 있었다. 그는 왕비 귀네비어가 홀로 남아 모두 호색한들인 원탁의 기사들과 함께 있게 된다는 것이 걱정되었다.
그는 멀린에게 조언을 들으러 갔다. 그는 멀린에게 그의 고충을 설명하였고, 그 마법사는 생각을 해보더니, 1주일 뒤 돌아오면 뭔가를 보게 될 거라고 말하였다.
1주일 뒤 아서왕이 멀린의 실험실에 다시 갔더니 거기에서 그 훌륭한 마법사는 최근의 그의 발명품을 그에게 보여주었다. 그것은 정조대였는데... 특이하게도 그 정조대에는 가장 눈에 잘 띄는 곳에 다소 큰 구멍이 뚫려 있었다.
"이건 별로 좋지 않아, 말린!"하고 왕이 소리쳤다, "이 구멍을 봐, 이게 어떻게 나의 처인 왕비를 보호할 수 있단 말인가?"
"아, 폐하, 그냥 지켜봐 주세요," 멀린은 그의 어질러진 작업대에서 뭘 찾으면서 말했다. 그때 그는 다 낡아서 어차피 버리려고 하던 막대기를 골랐다.
그러더니 그는 그걸 정조대의 벌어진 구멍 속에 집어넣었다 그러자 조그만 기요틴 칼날이 내려와 그걸 깔끔하게 둘도 잘랐다.
"멀린, 자네는 천재야!"라고 신이 난 왕이 말했다, "이젠 내 왕비가 완전히 보호될 수 있다는 걸 알았으니 떠날 수 있어." 아서왕은 귀네비어에게 그 장치를 달아주고 난 뒤, 원정을 떠났다.
몇 년이 지난 후 드디어 왕은 옛 고향 캐멀롯으로 돌아왔다. 즉시 왕은 모든 기사들을 안마당으로 집합시키고 비공식의 남근 검사를 위하여 그들의 바지를 내리라고 하였다.
정말 그랬다! 그들 중 모두가 잘리거나 어떤 형태로든 손상을 입고 있었다.
갤러해드경을 제외한 모두가 다 그랬다.
아서왕이 소리쳤다, "갤러해드경, 단 한 사람의 참된 기사! 모든 귀족 중 오직 경 만이 나에게 충성하였소. 내 힘이 닿는 대로 경의 소원을 들어줄 테니 그 소원이 무엇이오? 말만 하시오, 그러면 그건 경의 것이오!"
갤러해드는 아무 말이 없었다.
