According to the Internet: The inscription on the metal bands used by the U. S. Department of the Interior to tag migratory birds has been changed.
The bands used to bear the address of the Washington Biological Survey, abbreviated as “Wash. Biol. Surv.”?until the agency received the following letter from an unhappy camper: “Dear Sirs: While camping last week, I shot one of your birds. I think it was a crow. I followed the cooking instructions on the leg tag and want to tell you it tasted horrible.”
The bands are now marked “Fish & Wildlife Service.”
인터넷에 의하면: 미국 내무부가 철새들에게 태그를 붙일 때 사용한 금속 밴드에 적힌 표시가 변경되었다고 한다.
그 밴드엔 Washington Biological Survey(워싱턴 생물 조사국)의 약자를 표시한 "Wash. Biol. Surv."의 주소가 적혀 있었다. - 당국이 불만을 느낀 어느 캠핑족으로부터 다음과 같은 편지를 받을 때까진 그랬다: "안녕하세요, 지난주 캠핑하던 중, 저는 당신들의 새 한 마리를 사냥하였습니다. 저는 그 새가 까마귀라고 생각하였습니다. 저는 새의 다리 태그에 쓰인 요리 방법을 따랐는데 맛이 끔찍했음을 알려드리고 싶습니다."
그 밴드는 지금은 "Fish & Wildlife Service.(어류 및 야생동물국)"이라고 표시되어 있다.

* 사냥한 새의 다리 태그에 "Wash. Biol. Surv" 라고 쓰인 것을 본 캠핑족이 "Biol", "Surb" 란 생소한 표기를 "Boil", "Serv"의 오기로 보고, 사냥한 새를 "씻고, 삶아서 드세요." 라는 뜻인 줄 알고 그렇게 요리하여 먹어보니 맛이 끔찍했다는 것과 당국에서는 약어 사용으로 인하여 오해가 생겼다고 생각하고 그 후 밴드에 약어가 아닌 “Fish & Wildlife Service.”라고 표시하였다는 조크
