A man walked into a doctor's office and the receptionist asked him what he had.
He replied, "I got shingles."
She said, "Fill out this form and supply your name, address, medical insurance number. When you're done, please take a seat."
Fifteen minutes later a nurse's aide came out and asked him what he had.
He said, "I got shingles."
So she took down his height, weight, and complete medical history, then said, "Change into this gown and wait in the examining room."
A half hour later a nurse came in and asked him what he had.
He said, "I got shingles."
So she gave him a blood test, a blood pressure test, an electrocardiogram, and told him to wait for the doctor.
An hour later the doctor came in and asked him what he had.
He said, "Shingles."
The doctor gave him a full-cavity examination, and then said, "I just checked you out thoroughly, and I can't find shingles anywhere."
The man replied, "They're outside in the truck. Where do you want them?"

15분 뒤 간호보조원이 나와서 뭣 때문에 왔느냐고 물었다.
그는 슁글즈 때문이라고 말했다.
그러자 그녀는 남자의 키, 몸무게, 병력등을 조사하였다. 그리고 말했다, "이 가운으로 갈아입으시고 검사실에서 기다리세요."
반 시간 후 간호사가 들어와서 뭣 때문에 왔느냐고 물었다.
그는 "슁글즈 때문입니다."라고 말했다.
그러자 그녀는 혈액검사, 혈압검사, 심전도검사를 하고는 기다리면 의사가 들어올 거라고 말했다.
한시간 뒤 의사가 들어와서 뭣 때문에 왔느냐고 물었고, 그는 슁글즈 때문이라고 말했다.
의사는 그를 정밀검사하고는 말했다. "선생님을 철저히 조사했습니다. 그런데 슁글즈(대상포진)는 어디에도 없는데요."
그 남자가 말했다, "슁글즈(지붕이는 널빤지)는 바깥 트럭에 있습니다. 어디에 갖다 놓을가요?"

* full-cavity examination ☞ 세관에서 귀금속, 마약 등의 밀수품을 검사하기 위하여, 항문, 입, 귀, 코 등 몸에 있는 모든 구멍까지 철저히 검사하는 것을 가리키는 말로서 "철저한 검사"를 뜻함.
* 위와 같이 '대상포진'이라는 뜻과 '지붕널빤지들'이라는 두 가지 뜻이 있다. 그래서 지붕 널빤지를 가져갔다가 대상포진 환자로 오해받았다는 조크
