A lawyer runs a stop sign and gets pulled over by a sheriff's deputy.
He thinks that he is smarter than the deputy because he is a lawyer from New York and is certain that he has a better education than any cop from Texas.
He decides to prove this to himself and have some fun at the Texas deputy's expense.
The deputy says, "License and registration, please."
"What for?" says the lawyer.
The deputy says, "You didn't come to a complete stop at the stop sign."
Then the lawyer says, "I slowed down, and no one was coming."
"You still didn't come to a complete stop," Says the deputy. "License and registration, please."
The lawyer says, "What's the difference?"
"The difference is you have to come to acomplete stop, that's the law. License and registration, please!" the Deputy says.
Lawyer says, "If you can show me the legal difference between slow down and stop, I'll give you my license and registration; and you give me the ticket. If not, you let me go and don't give me the ticket."
"That sounds fair. Please exit your vehicle, sir," the deputy says.
At this point, the deputy takes out his nightstick and starts beating the daylights out of the lawyer and says, "Do you want me to stop, or just slow down?"

그때 변호사가 말했다, "난 속도를 줄였습니다, 그리고 아무도 정지하지 않았습니다."
"그래도 당신은 완전 정지하지 않았습니다," 하고 보안관 대리가 말했다. "운전면허증과 자동차등록증 좀 보여주세요."
변호사가 말했다, "무슨 차이가 있습니까?"
"차이는 당신이 완전히 정지해야 한다는 겁니다, 그게 법규입니다. 면허증과 등록증 좀 봅시다!" 하고 보안관 대리가 말했다.
변호사가 말했다, "만약 당신이 나에게 속도를 줄이는 것과 정지하는 것과의 법적 차이를 보여 줄 수 있으면 당신에게 내 면허증과 등록증을 드리고 당신은 나에게 티켓을 끊어줘도 좋습니다. 하지만 만일 그렇게 하지 못하면 날 보내주고 티켓도 끊지 마세요."
"그게 공평한 것 같군요. 그럼 차에서 내리시죠, 선생님," 하고 보안관 대리가 말했다.
그러자 보안관 대리는 야경봉을 꺼내어 변호사를 흠씬 두들겨 패고 말했다, "당신은 내가 정지하기를 바랍니까, 내가 속도를 줄이기를 바랍니까?"
