Upon entering the little country store, the stranger noticed a sign saying DANGER! BEWARE OF DOG! posted on the glass door.
Inside he noticed a harmless old hound dog asleep on the floor beside the cash register.
He asked the store manager, "Is THAT the dog folks are supposed to beware of?"
"Yep, that's him," he replied.
The stranger couldn't help but be amused. "That certainly doesn't look like a dangerous dog to me. Why in the world would you post that sign?"
"Because", the owner replied, "before I posted that sign, people kept tripping over him."
작은 시골 상점 안으로 들어가려던 외지인이 유리창에 붙은 '위험! 개를 조심하세요!'라는 표지를 보았다.
그가 안에 들어가 보니 순하게 생긴 늙은 사냥개 한 마리가 금전등록기 옆 마루에서 잠을 자고 있었다.
그가 상점 매니저에게 물었다, "저게 사람들이 조심해야할 그 개인가요?"
"예, 그 개가 맞습니다," 하고 매니저가 대답했다.
그 외지인은 웃지 않을 수 없었다. "저 개가 나에겐 전혀 위험한 개로 보이지 않군요. 도대체 왜 저 표지를 붙여 놓았나요?"
"왜냐하면," 하고 그 주인이 대답했다, "제가 저 표지를 붙이기 전에는 사람들이 계속 그 개에게 걸려 넘어졌거든요."
