A farmer stopped by the local mechanic shop to have his truck fixed.
They couldn't do it while he waited, so he said he didn't live far and would just walk home.
On the way home he stopped at the hardware store and bought a bucket and a gallon of paint.
He then stopped by the feed store and picked up a couple of chickens and a goose.
However, struggling outside the store he now had a problem - how to carry his entire purchases home.
While he was scratching his head he was approached by a little old lady who told him she was lost.
She asked, "Can you tell me how to get to 1603 Mockingbird Lane ?"
The farmer said, "Well, as a matter of fact, my farm is very close to that house. I would walk you there but I can't carry this lot."
The old lady suggested, " Why don't you put the can of paint in the bucket. Carry the bucket in one hand; put a chicken under each arm and carry the goose in your other hand?"
"Why thank you very much," he said and proceeded to walk the old girl home.
On the way he says "Let's take my short cut and go down this alley. We'll be there in no time."
The little old lady looked him over cautiously then said, "I am a lonely widow without a husband to defend me. How do I know that when we get in the alley you won't hold me up against the wall, pull up my skirt, and have your way with me?"
The farmer said, "Holy smokes lady! I'm carrying a bucket, an, a gallon of paint, two chickens, and a goose. How in the world could I possibly hold you up against the wall and do that?"
The old lady replied, "Set the goose down, cover him with the bucket, put the paint on top of the bucket, and I'll hold the chickens."
어떤 농부가 자기의 트럭을 고치려고 동네 정비소에 들렀다.
일이 끝날때 까지 기다릴 수가 없어서 그는 집이 멀지 않으니 그냥 걸어서 가겠다고 말했다.
집으로 가는 길에 그는 철물점에 들러 바켓 하나와 페인트 1갤론짜리 1통을 샀다.
그리고나서 사료 가게에 들러 닭 2마리와 거위 1마리를 샀다.
가까스로 상점 밖을 나왔으나 이 물건들을 모두 어떻게 집으로 가져가야 하느냐가 문제였다.
그가 머리를 긁적거리고 있는데 몸이 쇠약한 어느 초로의 여인이 다가와서 길을 잃었다고 말했다.
여인이 물었다, "모킹버더 레인 1603번지로 가려면 어떻게 가나요?"
농부가 말했다, "사실은, 제 농장이 그 집에서 매우 가깝습니다. 제가 거기로 모시고 갈 수가 있지만 이 짐을 가져 갈 수가 없군요."
여인이 말했다, "바켓 속에 페인트 통을 넣어요. 한 손으로 바켓을 들고 팔에다 닭 한 마리씩을 끼고 다른 한 손으로 거위를 들고 가면 되잖아요?"
"그렇군요, 대단히 감사합니다," 라고 말하고는 농부는 여인과 함께 집으로 걸어가고 있었다.
가는 길에 농부가 말했다, "지름길로 갑시다, 이 골목으로 가요. 조금 있으면 도착할 겁니다."
여인은 조심스럽게 그를 쳐다보더니 말했다, "나는 날 보호해 줄 남편이 없는 외로운 과부예요. 당신이 골목에 들어섰을때 당신이 날 벽에다 세우고 스커트를 올리고 당신 마음대로 안하리라고 어떻게 믿죠?"
농부가 말했다, "아이고 부인! 나는 바켓, 페인트 통, 닭 두마리, 거위 한마리를 들고 있습니다. 도대체 제가 어떻게 부인을 벽에 붙들어 세우고 그짓을 할 수 있습니까?"
여인이 대답했다, "거위를 내려 놓고 그위에 바켓을 씌우고 그 위에 페인트 통을 올려 놓으세요. 그리고 내가 그 닭들을 들고 있을게요."
