A man went to visit his 90 year old grandfather in a very secluded rural area of the state he lived in.
After spending the night, his grandfather prepared breakfast for him consisting of eggs and bacon.
He noticed a film like substance on his plate and he questioned his grandfather, "are these plates clean?"
His grandfather replied, "Those plates are as clean as cold water can get them, so go on and finish your meal."
That afternoon, while eating the hamburgers his grandfather made for lunch, he noticed tiny specks around the edge of his plate and a substance that looked like dried egg yokes, so he ask again, "Are you sure these plates are clean?"
Without looking up from his hamburger, the grandfather says, "I told you before; those dishes are as clean as cold water can get them. Now don't ask me about it anymore!"
Later that afternoon, he was on his way out to get dinner in a nearby town.
As he was leaving, his grandfather's dog started to growl and wouldn't let him pass so he said, "Grandfather, your dog won't let me out."
Without diverting his attention from the football game he was watching on TV his grandfather shouted, "Cold Water, Go lay down!"

그날 오후, 그의 할아버지가 점심으로 만든 햄버거를 먹는 동안, 그는 자기 접시 언저리에서 작은 얼룩과 달걀 노른자위 같은 물질을 보았다. 그래서 그가 다시 물었다, "할아버지, 이 접시들 깨끗한 게 틀림없어요?"
할아버지가 햄버거에서 눈을 떼지 않고 말했다, "내가 전에 말했잖아, 그 접시들은 콜드 워터가 할 수 있는 만큼 깨끗이 해 둔 거야. 이젠 그에 대해 더는 묻지 마!"
그날 오후 늦게, 그는 가까운 도시에서 저녁 식사를 하기 위하여 바깥으로 나가는 중이었다.
그가 떠나려 하자, 그의 할아버지 개가 으르렁거리기 시작하더니 그를 지나가게 하지 않았다, 그래서 그가 말했다, "할아버지, 할아버지 개가 절 못 나가게 해요."
할아버지는 TV에서 보고 있던 풋볼 게임에서 눈을 돌리지도 않고, 소리쳤다, "콜드 워터야, 가서 쉬어!"

* "cold water"는 찬물이 아니고 할아버지 개의 이름이어서, 할아버지가 콜드 워터가 할 수 있는 만큼은 깨끗이 해 놓았다는 말의 뜻은 "찬물로 할 수 있는 만큼은 깨끗이 해 놓았다."라는 뜻이 아니고 "콜드 워터라고 불리는 할아버지의 개가 할 수 있는 만큼은 깨끗이 해 놓았다는 뜻이라는 조크
