The three bears had been having some trouble recently and had ended up in family court.
Mama and Papa bear were splitting up, and baby bear had to decide who he was going to live with.
So, the judge wanted to talk to baby bear to see what he thought about living with either of his parents.
When he asked baby bear about living with his father, baby bear said, "No, I can't live with Papa bear, he beats me terribly."
"OK," said the judge, "then you want to live with your mother, right?"
"No way!" replied baby bear, "She beats me worse than Papa bear does."
The judge was a bit confused by this, and didn't quite know what to do.
"Well, you have to live with someone, so is there any relatives you would like to stay with?" asked the judge.
"Yes," answered baby bear, "my aunt Bertha bear who lives in Chicago."
"You're sure she will treat you well and won't beat you?" asked the judge.
"Oh definitely," said baby bear, "the Chicago Bears don't beat anybody."
세 마리의 곰은 최근 힘든 일을 겪고 있다가 결국 가정법원에 가게 되었다.
엄마와 아빠가 헤어지기로 하였다, 그러고 아기곰은 그가 누구와 함께 살 것인지를 결정하여야 했다.
그래서 판사는 아기곰이 누구와 살고 싶은지 알아보기 위하여 아기곰과 이야기하고 싶었다.
판사가 아기곰에게 아빠와 살고 싶으냐고 물었을 때, 아기곰이 말했다, "아뇨, 나는 아빠 곰과 살 수 없습니다, 아빠는 나를 되게 때립니다."
"알았어," 하고 판사가 말했다, "그럼 너는 너의 엄마와 살고 싶은 거군, 그렇지?"
"절대 아닙니다!" 하고 아기곰이 대답하였다, "엄마는 아빠보다 더 나를 때립니다."
판사는 이 말을 듣고 약간 당황하였다, 그러고 어떻게 해야 할지 전혀 몰랐다.
"음, 너는 다른 사람과 살아야 해, 그러니 네가 같이 살고 싶은 친척이라도 있니?" 하고 판사가 물었다.
"있습니다," 하고 아기곰이 대답하였다, "시카고에 살고 있는 이모 곰 베르타입니다."
"이모가 널 잘 대하고 너를 때리지 않을 거라는 걸 자신하나?" 하고 판사가 물었다.
"아, 확실합니다," 하고 아기곰이 말했다, "시카고 베어스는 어느 누구든 때리지 않습니다."
