A bar owner in the Old West has just hired a timid new bartender.
The owner of the establishment is giving his new hire some instructions on running the place.
He tells the timid man, "If you ever hear that Big John is coming to town, drop everything and run for the hills! He's the meanest, biggest, nastiest outlaw who ever lived!"
A few weeks pass uneventfully.
But one afternoon, a local cowhand comes running through town yelling, "Big John is coming to town!! Run for your lives!"
When the bartender exits the saloon to start running, he's knocked to the ground by several townspeople scurrying out of town.
As he's picking himself up, he sees a large man approaching the saloon, probably about 7 feet tall, muscular, grunting and growling as he walks.
He stomps up to the door, orders the poor barkeep inside, and demands, "I want a beer NOW!"
He pounds his heavy fist on the bar, splitting it in half. The bartender nervously hands the big man a beer, hands shaking.
He takes the beer, rips the top of the bottle off with his teeth, and downs the beer in one gulp.
As the poor timid bartender cowers behind the bar, the big man gets up to leave. "Do you want another beer?" the bartender calls out.
"Dang it, I don't have time!" the big man yells. "I gotta get out of town!!! Didn't ya hear that Big John is a-comin?"

몇 주일은 아무 일 없이 지나갔다.
그러나 어느 오후에, 동네 목동이 뛰어와서 소리쳤다, "빅 존이 동네로 오고 있어! 목숨 걸고 도망쳐!"
바텐더가 달아나기 위하여 살롱 문을 닫고 있을 때, 그는 동네 밖으로 달아나고 있던 몇 명의 동네 사람들 때문에 땅에 넘어졌다.
그가 몸을 일으키고 있을 때 그는 몸집 큰 어떤 남자가 살롱으로 다가오고 있는 걸 보았는데, 아마 키가 7피트쯤 되는 근육질인 남자가 걸어가면서 끙끙 으르렁거리고 있었다.
그는 발을 쿵쿵거리며 문으로 와서 불쌍한 바텐더를 안으로 들어가도록 명령하고 말했다, "바로 맥주를 가져와!"
그는 무거운 주먹으로 카운터를 내리쳐서 반으로 쪼개버렸다. 바텐더는 초조하게 그 큰 사람에게 떨리는 손으로 맥주병을 건네주었다.
그는 맥주병을 받아 이빨로 뚜껑을 따고 단숨에 맥주를 마셔버렸다.
불쌍하고 소심한 바텐더가 카운터 뒤로 움츠리고 있자, 그 큰 사람은 떠나려고 일어섰다. "맥주를 더 드시겠습니까?" 하고 바텐더가 소리쳤다.
"제기랄, 시간이 없어!" 하고 그 큰 사람이 소리였다, "난 동네 밖으로 나가야 해! 넌 빅 존이 오고 있다는 말 못 들었어?"
