Little Johnny had a speech impediment. Try as they might, his parents could not find the cause. They took him to specialist after specialist.
The specialists examined his mouth, his nose, his ears and his brain, but could find no cause.
He seemed doomed to continue to say women instead of lemon, and wheydy instead of lady and tuwoo instead of throw.
One day, he was out in the back yard paying wid his baw (playing with his ball). He would tuwoo da baw up and then catch it, tuwoo da baw up and then catch it, tuwoo da baw up and then catch it.
Then he tuwoo da baw up, the wind caught it and blew it over the fence into the next yard where the new neighbor was working in her garden.
He said, "Wheydy, tuwoo me my baw."
She said, "Little Johnny, blow your nose."
He said again, "Wheydy, tuwoo me my baw."
And she again said, "Little Johnny, blow your nose."
He said, "Wheydy, pueez, tuwoo me my baw."
She said, "Little Johnny, blow your nose."
He said, "Wheydy, pueez, tuwoo me my baw."
She said, "Little Johnny, please blow your nose."
He said, "Wheydy, puddy pueez, tuwoo me my baw."
She said, "Little Johnny, blow your nose."
He said, "Oh OK," and blew his nose.
Then he said, "Lady, please throw me my ball."
리틀 자니는 언어 장애를 갖고 있었다. 부모가 아무리 애를 써도 그 이유를 찾을 수가 없었다. 부모가 그를 이 전문가 저 전문가로 데리고 다녔다.
전문가들은 그의 입, 그의 코, 그의 귀 그리고 그의 뇌를 조사하였다, 하지만 그 이유를 발견하지 못하였다.
그는 불행히도 lemon 대신 women, lady 대신 Wheydy 그리고 throw 대신 tuwoo 라고 계속 말하는 걸 운명으로 여겨야 할 것 같았다.
어느 날, 그는 뒤뜰에서 공놀이를 하고 있었다. 그는 공을 던져 올렸다가 받고, 공을 던져 올렸다가 받고, 공을 던져 올렸다가 받곤 하였다.
그러다가 공을 던져 올렸는데 바람이 휙 불어서 공이 담을 넘어 이웃집 마당으로 떨어졌고 거기에는 새로 이사 온 이웃 아주머니가 정원에서 일하고 있었다.
그가 말했다, "Wheydy, tuwoo me my baw.(아주머니 제 공 던져주세요)"
그녀가 말했다, "리틀 자니, 너 코 풀어."
그가 다시 말했다, "Wheydy, tuwoo me my baw."
그녀가 다시 말했다, "리틀 자니, 너 코 풀어."
그가 말했다, "Wheydy, pueez, tuwoo me my baw.(아주머니 제발 제 공 던져주세요)"
그녀가 말했다, "리틀 자니, 너 코 풀어."
그가 말했다, "Wheydy, pueez, tuwoo me my baw."
그녀가 말했다, "리틀 자니, 제발 너 코 풀어."
그가 말했다, "Wheydy, puddy pueez, tuwoo me my baw.(Lady, pretty please, throw me my ball. 아주머니, 부탁해요, 제 볼 던져주세요)"
그녀가 말했다, "리틀 자니, 너 코 풀어."
그가 말했다, "아, 알았어요," 그리고 자기 코를 풀었다.
그리고는 그가 말했다, "아주머니 제발 제 공을 던져 주세요."
