"Daddy, where did I come from?" the seven-year-old asked.
It was a moment for which her parents had carefully prepared.
They took her into the living room, got out the encyclopedia and several other books, and explained all they thought she should know about sexual attraction, affection, love, and reproductions.
Then they both sat back and smiled contentedly.
"Does that answer your question?" her father asked.
"Not really," the little girl said. "Marcia said she came from Detroit. I want to know where I came from."
"아빠, 난 어디서 왔어?" 7살짜리 딸아이가 물었다.
아이의 부모가 조심스럽게 준비해온 순간이었다.
부모들은 아이를 거실로 데리고 가서 백과사전과 다른 여러 책들을 꺼내어 아이가 알아두어야 할 것으로 생각한 성욕, 애정, 사랑, 그리고 생식에 대하여 설명해 주었다.
그리곤 부모는 물러나 앉아 만족스러운 미소를 지었다.
"네 질문에 대한 아빠의 대답 알아들었어?" 하고 아빠가 물었다.
"정말 잘 모르겠어," 하고 어린 소녀가 말했다, "마샤는 자기가 디트로이트에서 왔다고 말했어. 난 어디서 왔는지 알고 싶어."
