It was time for Father John's Saturday night bath and the young nun, Sister Magdalene had prepared the bath water and towels just the way the old nun had instructed.
Sister Magdalene was also instructed not to look at Father John's nakedness if she could help it, do whatever he told her to do and pray.
The next morning the old nun who normally took care of Father John's Saturday night bath asked Sister Magdalene how the Saturday night bath had gone.
"Oh sister," said the young nun dreamily, "I've been saved."
"Saved? And how did that come about?" asked the old nun.
"Well, when Father John was soaking in the tub, he asked me to wash him, and while I was washing him he guided my hand down between his legs, where he said the Lord keeps the Key to Heaven."
"Did he now?" said the old nun evenly.
Sister Magdalene continued, "and Father John said that if the Key to Heaven fit's my lock, the portals of Heaven would be opened to me and I would be assured salvation and eternal peace. And then Father John guided his Key to Heaven into my lock."
"Is that a fact?" said the old nun even more evenly.
"At first it hurt terribly, but Father John said the pathway to salvation was often painful and that the glory of God would soon swell my heart with ecstasy. And it did, it felt so good being saved."
"That wicked old bastard" said the old nun. "He told me it was Gabriel's Horn, and I've been blowing it for 40 years!!!"
존 신부의 토요일 밤 목욕시간이었는데 젊은 막달라 수녀는 늙은 수녀가 지시하는 대로 목욕물과 타올을 준비하였다.
막달라 수녀는 또한 존 신부의 중요한 곳을 도와주더라도 쳐다보지 말것과 신부가 시키고 간구하는 것은 무엇이든지 들어주라는 지시를 받았다.
다음날 아침 평소 존 신부의 토요일 밤 목욕을 보살펴왔던 늙은 수녀가 막달라 수녀에게 토요일 밤목욕은 어떻게 되었느냐고 물었다.
젊은 막달라 수녀가 꿈꾸듯 말했다, "아~ 수녀님, 저는 구원을 받았어요."
"구원받았다고? 어떻게 해서 구원받았단 말이야?" 하고 늙은 수녀가 물었다.
"존 신부님이 탕에 몸을 담갔을 때 저에게 몸을 씻어달라고 말씀하셨습니다. 그리고 제가 신부님 몸을 씻고 있을때 신부님이 저의 손을 자기 다리 사이로 끌어들였는데 거기에는 천국으로 들어가는 열쇠를 주님이 맡겨두셨다고 하였습니다."
"이젠 그런 말씀을 하시더냐?" 하고 늙은 수녀가 조용히 말했다.
막달라 수녀가 말을 계속했다, "그리고 존 신부님이 말씀하시길 만약 천국으로 들어가는 열쇠가 나의 자물쇠와 맞는다면 저에게 천국의 문이 열려 구원과 영원한 평화를 보장받게 될 것이라고 하셨습니다. 그러더니 존 신부님이 천국의 열쇠를 저의 자물쇠 속으로 유도하였습니다."
"그게 사실이야?" 늙은 수녀는 더욱 조용하게 말했다.
"처음에는 몹시 아팠습니다, 그러나 존 신부님은 구원으로 통하는 길은 가끔 고통스럽고 하느님의 영광이 곧 나의 가슴 속에 황홀하게 가득할 것이라고 말씀하셨습니다. 정말이었습니다. 저는 황홀한 느낌 속에서 구원받았습니다."
"저런 사악한 늙은이 같으니라구" 늙은 수녀가 말했다. "신부님이 나에게는 그게 가브리엘의 나팔이라고 말했고, 나는 40년 동안 그 나팔을 불어왔는데!!!"
