One day, heaven is beginning to fill up (of course due to the population explosion), so St. Peter decides to ask each person a question about the bible before they can enter.
Three men stand at the pearly gates, waiting to get into heaven. "How many wise men were there?" St. Peter asks the first man.
"Three." He answers, and the trumpets sound, the gates open, and the first man enters.
"How long did the flood last?" St. Peter asks the second man. "Forty days and forty nights." He answers, and the trumpets sound, the gates open and the second man enters.
Seeing how easily the first two answered his trivia, St. Peter thinks of a much more difficult question for the second man.
Finally, he asks, "What was the first thing Eve said to Adam in the Garden?"
The man thinks and thinks, but can't come up with an answer. "Boy, that's a hard one," he finally says.
And the trumpets blow, the gates open, and the last man enters heaven.
어느날 천국이 만원이 되어가고 있었다(물론 인구폭발 때문이다). 그래서 성 베드로는 사람들이 들어가기 전에 성경에 관한 질문 한개씩 묻기로 했다.
세 남자가 천국에 들어가기 위해 진주문에 서서 기다리고 있었다. "현자가 몇 명 있었지요?" 하고 성 베드로가 첫번째 남자에게 물었다.
"세명입니다." 라고 그가 말하자, 트럼펫이 울리고 문이 열렸다, 그리고 그 첫 번째 남자는 들어갔다.
"대홍수는 얼마나 지속되었나요?" 하고 성 베드로가 두번째 남자에게 물었다.
"40일 낮과 40일 밤입니다." 하고 대답했다, 트럼펫이 울리고 문이 열려 그 두번째 남자는 들어갔다.
처음 두사람이 그의 질문에 너무 쉽게 답하는 걸 본 성 베드로는 다음 사람에겐 좀 더 어려운 질문을 하기로 하였다.
드디어, 성 베드로가 물었다, "천국의 정원에서 이브가 아담에게 처음으로 한 말은 무엇이죠?"
그 남자는 생각하고 또 생각하였지만 대답을 할 수가 없었다. "이런, 이건 어렵군요.("이런, 이건 딱딱하네요"라는 뜻도 있음)" 하고 드디어 그가 말했다.
그러자 트럼팻이 울리고 문이 열렸다, 그리고 그 마지막 남자는 천국으로 들어갔다.
