A somewhat advanced society has figured how to package basic knowledge in pill form.
A student, needing some learning, goes to the pharmacy and asks what kind of knowledge pills are available.
The pharmacist says, "Here's a pill for English literature."
The student takes the pill and swallows it and has new knowledge about English literature!
"What else do you have?" asks the student.
"Well, I have pills for art history, biology, and world history," replies the pharmacist.
The student asks for these, and swallows them and has new knowledge about those subjects.
Then the student asks, "Do you have a pill for math?"
The pharmacist says, "Wait just a moment," goes back into the storeroom, brings back a whopper of a pill, and plunks it on the counter.
"I have to take that huge pill for math?" inquires the student.
The pharmacist replied, "Well, you know math always was a little hard to swallow."
다소 진보적인 어느 사회가 기초 지식을 알약 형태로 만들어 포장하는 방법을 알아내었다.
지식이 필요한 어느 학생이 약국에 가서 무슨 종류의 지식 약을 팔고 있느냐고 물었다.
약사가 말했다, "여기 영문학 알약이 있습니다."
그 학생은 그 알약을 받아 삼키고 영문학에 관한 새로운 지식을 갖게 되었다!
"그 밖에 무슨 약이 있나요?" 하고 학생이 물었다.
"음, 미술사, 생물학, 그리고 세계사 알약이 있습니다," 하고 약사가 대답하였다.
그 학생은 그것들을 달라고 하여 모두 삼키고 그 분야에 대한 새로운 지식을 갖게 되었다.
그런 후 그 학생이 물었다, "수학 알약이 있습니까?"
약사가 "잠시만 기다리세요,"라고 말하고는 뒤쪽 창고로 가서 커다란 알약 하나를 갖고 왔다, 그리고 그 알약을 카운터 위에 쿵 하고 내려놓았다.
"수학을 위해서는 그렇게 큰 알약을 먹어야 하나요?" 하고 학생이 물었다.
약사가 대답하였다, "음, 알다시피 수학은 항상 삼키기가 좀 힘들죠."
