One day a fisherman was lying on a beautiful beach, with his fishing pole propped up in the sand and his solitary line cast out into the sparkling blue surf.
He was enjoying the warmth of the afternoon sun and the prospect of catching a fish.
About that time, a businessman came walking down the beach, trying to relieve some of the stress of his workday.
He noticed the fisherman sitting on the beach and decided to find out why this fisherman was fishing instead of working harder to make a living for himself and his family.
"You aren't going to catch many fish that way," said the businessman to the fisherman, "you should be working rather than just lying on the beach!"
The fisherman looked up at the businessman, smiled and replied, "And what will be my reward?"
"Well, you can get bigger nets and catch more fish!" was the businessman's answer.
"And then what will be my reward?" asked the fisherman, still smiling.
The businessman replied, "You will make money and you'll be able to buy a boat, which will then result in larger catches of fish!"
"And then what will be my reward?" asked the fisherman again.
The businessman was beginning to get a little irritated with the fisherman's seemingly dense questions.
"You can buy a bigger boat, and hire some people to work for you!" he said.
"And then what will be my reward?" asked the fisherman.
The businessman was angry now. "Don't you understand? You can build up a fleet of fishing boats, sail all over the world, and let all your employees catch fish for you!"
Once again the fisherman asked, "And then what will be my reward?"
The businessman was red with rage and shouted at the fisherman, "Don't you understand that you can become so rich that you will never have to work for your living again! You can spend all the rest of your days sitting on this beach, looking at the sunset. You won't have a care in the world!"
The fisherman, still smiling, looked up and said, "And what do you think I'm doing now?"

낚시꾼이 그 사업가를 쳐다보고, 웃으면서 대답하였다, "그리고 내가 바라는 보상은 무엇일 거 같소?"
"음, 당신은 더 큰 그물을 사고 더 많은 고기를 잡는 거겠죠!"하고 그 사업가가 말했다.
"그리고 그런 후에 내가 바라는 보상은 무엇일 거 같소?" 하고 그 낚시꾼은 여전히 웃으면서 물었다.
그 사업가가 대답하였다, "당신은 돈을 벌어서 배를 살 수 있을 것입니다, 그렇게 되면 결과적으로 당신은 더 많은 고기를 잡을 것입니다!"
"그다음 내가 바라는 보상은 무엇이겠소?"하고 그 낚시꾼이 다시 물었다.
그 사업가는 낚시꾼의 우둔해 보이는 질문에 약간 당황하기 시작하였다.
"당신은 더 큰 배를 살 수 있을 것이고, 당신을 위해 일할 사람들을 고용할 수 있을 것입니다!" 하고 그가 말하였다.
"그다음 내가 바라는 보상은 무엇일 거 같소?" 하고 낚시꾼이 물었다.
그 사업가는 이제 화가 났다. "당신은 내 말을 못 알아듣는 군요, 당신은 어선 선단을 설립하여 전세계에 판매하고, 당신이 고용한 인부들이 모두 당신을 위하여 고기를 잡도록 하겠죠!"
또다시 낚시꾼이 물었다, "그다음 내가 바라는 보상은 무엇일 거 같소?"
그 사업가는 화가 나서 얼굴을 붉히고 그 낚시꾼에게 소리쳤다, "당신이 매우 부유해져서, 더는 생활비를 벌기 위해 일할 필요가 절대 없다는 내 말을 이해 못 하겠어요! 당신은 이 해변에 앉아서, 저녁노을을 바라보며 여생을 보낼 수 있단 말입니다. 당신은 세상에 걱정거리가 없을 겁니다!"
그 낚시꾼은 여전히 웃으면서, 쳐다보고 말했다, "그리고 당신은 내가 지금 뭘 하고 있다고 생각하나요?"
