A Post Office worker at the main sorting office finds an unstamped, poorly hand-written envelope addressed to God.
He opens it and discovers it is from an elderly lady, distressed because some thief robbed her of 100 dollars.
She will be cold and hungry for the rest of the month if she doesn't receive some divine intervention.
The worker organizes a collection amongst the other postal workers, who dig deep and come up with 96 dollars.
They get it to her by special courier the same morning.
A week later, the same postal worker recognizes the same hand on another envelope.
He opens it and reads: "Dear God, Thank you for the 100 dollars. This month would have been so bleak otherwise."
"P.S. It was four dollars short but that was probably those thieving bastards at the Post Office."
우편물 대분류 작업실에 근무하는 어느 우체국 종업원이 우표도 붙이지 않고 서투른 필체로 수신인이 하느님으로 된 봉투를 하나 발견하였다.
그가 그 봉투를 열어보고, 한 노파가 보낸 것임을 알게 되었다, 어느 도둑이 그 노파에게서 100달러를 훔쳐 갔기 때문에 곤궁에 처해 있다는 것이었다.
그 노파가 만약 하느님의 중재를 받지 못하면 그달의 나머지 기간을 춥고 배고프게 지내게 될 것이다.
그 직원은 다른 우체국 직원들과 함께 모금 운동을 펼쳤다. 직원들이 주머니를 털어 96달러가 모였다.
그들은 그날 아침 그 돈을 특별 배달로 그 노파에게 보냈다.
1주일 뒤, 그 우체국 직원은 똑같은 필체로 쓰인 봉투를 또 하나 발견하였다.
그는 그 봉투를 열고 읽어보았다: "하느님께, 100달러를 보내주셔서 감사합니다. 100달러가 없었다면 이달은 매우 힘들었을 것입니다."
"추신: 4달러가 모자랐지만 그건 아마 우체국에 있는 저 도둑놈들 때문일 겁니다."
