A mechanic was removing a cylinder-head from the motor of a Harley motorcycle when he spotted a well-known cardiologist in his shop.
The cardiologist was there waiting for the service manager to come take a look at his bike when the mechanic shouted across the garage, "Hey Doc, want to take a look at this?"
The cardiologist, a bit surprised, walked over to where the mechanic was working on the motorcycle.
The mechanic straightened up, wiped his hands on a rag and asked, "So Doc, look at this engine. I open its heart, take the valves out, repair any damage, and then put them back in, and when I finish, it works just like new. So how come I make $39,675 a year and you make over a million a year when you and I are doing basically the same work?"
The cardiologist paused, smiled and leaned over, then whispered to the mechanic, "Try doing it with the engine running.”
어느 정비사가 할리 모터사이클의 모터에서 실린더 헤드를 빼내고 있었는데 그때 그는 자기 점포에서 아주 유명한 심장 학자를 보았다.
그 심장 학자는 거기서 서비스 매니저가 와서 자기 오토바이를 살펴주길 기다리고 있었는데 그때 그 정비사가 정비소 건너편으로 소리쳤다, "아, 박사님, 이걸 좀 봐주시겠어요?"
심장 학자는 다소 놀란 표정으로 그 정비사가 모터사이클을 손보고 있는 곳으로 갔다.
정비사는 허리를 펴고, 걸레로 손을 닦고 물었다, "저 박사님, 이 엔진을 보세요. 저는 이 기계의 심장을 열고, 밸브를 꺼내어 손상된 곳을 수리하고 나서, 그걸 도로 넣습니다, 그리고 제가 수리를 끝내면, 모터가 새것처럼 작동합니다. 그런데 저와 박사님은 기본적으로 같은 일을 하는데 어떻게 하여 저는 1년에 39,675달러를 벌고, 박사님은 1년에 백만 달러 이상을 버십니까?"
심장 학자는 잠시 말이 없더니 미소를 짓고 몸을 굽히더니 그 정비사에게 속삭였다, "엔진을 가동해 놓은 채로 수리해보세요."
