A young couple moved into the house next to the church parsonage. A few days later, the pastor's wife called the pastor into the kitchen.
She was peering out the window. "Look at our neighbor hanging the wash out on the line. That laundry is still dirty! She must be a newlywed who doesn't know how to wash clothes properly. Maybe she's not using enough laundry soap."
The pastor urged his wife not to say anything, but the next week, sure enough, the neighbor's dirty laundry hung on the line again. And again the following week.
Every time the pastor's wife peered out the window, she saw her neighbor's dirty laundry hanging on the clothesline.
Then, one morning as she scurried around getting breakfast, the pastor's wife exclaimed, "Look! She finally got the clothes clean! I wonder who helped her?"
The pastor smiled and said, "Honey, no one helped her. I just got up early this morning and cleaned our windows!"
어느 젊은 부부가 교회 교구 목사관 옆으로 이사 왔다. 며칠 후, 목사의 부인이 목사를 부엌으로 불렀다.
그녀가 창밖을 응시하면서 말했다, "옆집에서 빨랫줄에 걸어놓은 빨래를 봐요. 저 빨래는 아직도 더러워! 그녀는 옷을 올바로 씻는 방법을 모르는 갓 결혼한 여자가 틀림없어. 아마 그녀가 세탁비누를 충분히 사용하지 않는 것 같아."
목사는 아내에게 아무 말도 하지 말라고 다그쳤다, 하지만 그다음 주가 되자, 이번에도, 그 이웃집의 더러운 빨래가 다시 빨랫줄에 걸려 있었다. 그리고 다음 주에도 마찬가지였다.
목사의 아내는 창밖을 바라볼 때마다, 이웃집의 더러운 빨래가 빨랫줄에 걸려있는 것을 보았다.
그런데, 어느 날 아침 서둘러 아침밥을 준비하다가, 목사의 아내가 소리쳤다, "봐요! 그녀가 드디어 옷을 깨끗하게 빨래했어! 누가 그녀를 도와줬지?"
목사가 웃으면서 말했다, "여보, 도와준 사람은 아무도 없었어. 내가 오늘 아침 일찍 일어나서 우리 창문을 청소했어!"
