One morning, after her husband had gone to work, his wife decided to have a leisurely bath. She undressed and then remembered that the gas was still on in the kitchen.
Wrapped in a towel, she went downstairs. She was about to turn off the gas when she heard footsteps.
She realized at once that it was the milkman since the arrangement was for him to deliver the milk to the kitchen.
So she ran to the nearest door, the broom cupboard and made it just in time.
The footsteps grew louder. The door was opened. It was the man from the Gas Company who had called to read the meter.
For a moment she was speechless. Then she said, "Sorry, I was expecting the milkman."
어느 날 아침 남편이 출근하고 난 뒤, 그의 아내는 느긋하게 목욕하기로 하였다. 그녀는 옷을 벗었는데 그때 부엌에 있는 가스 불이 아직 켜져 있다는 게 생각났다.
그녀는 타월을 두르고 계단을 내려갔다. 그녀가 가스를 끄려고 할 때 발자국 소리가 들렸다.
그녀는 즉시 우유 배달인이라고 생각하였다 왜냐하면 그에게 우유를 부엌으로 배달하여 달라고 말해 두었기 때문이다.
그래서 그녀는 가장 가까이 있는 문, 청소도구 넣는 벽장으로 달려가 겨우 도착한 순간이었다.
발자국 소리가 커지고 문이 열렸다. 가스미터기를 읽으러 온 가스회사 직원이었다.
잠시 그녀는 말이 나오지 않았다. 그러고 나서 말했다, "미안해요, 저는 우유배달하는 사람인 줄 알았어요."
