A magician worked on a cruise ship.
The audience was different each week, so the magician did the same tricks over and over again.
There was one problem. The captain's parrot saw the shows each week and began to understand how the magician did every trick.
Once he understood, he started shouting in the middle of the show "Look, it's not the same hat!" or, "Look, he's hiding the flowers under the table," or "Hey, why are all the cards the ace of spades?"
The magician was furious, but couldn't do anything. It was, after all, the captain's parrot.
Then the ship sank. The magician found himself on a piece of wood in the middle of the sea with, as fate would have it, the parrot.
They stared at each other with hatred, but did not utter a word.
This went on for a day and then another and then another.
Finally on the fourth day, the parrot could not hold back and said, "OK, I give up. Where's the fucking ship?"
어떤 마술사가 유람선에서 일하고 있었다.
관중들은 매주 바뀌었다, 그래서 그 마술사는 언제나 똑같은 마술을 했다.
문제가 하나 생겼다. 그 배의 선장이 키우는 앵무새가 있었는데 이 앵무새는 매주 그 쇼를 보게 되자 마술사가 어떻게 마술을 하는지 이해하기 시작하였다.
일단 이해하게 되자 그 앵무새는 쇼의 도중에 소리치기 시작했다. "이봐, 같은 모자가 아니잖아!" 또는 "저런, 꽃을 테이블 밑에 숨겨두었네," 또는 "이봐, 왜 카드가 모두 스페이드 에이스지?"
마술사는 몹시 화가 났지만 어떻게 할 수가 없었다. 어떻든 그 녀석은 선장의 앵무새였으니까.
그런데 배가 침몰했다. 그 마술사는 바다 가운데서 자신이 나뭇조각 위에 있음을 발견했는데 운이 나쁘게도 그 앵무새가 함께 있었다.
그들은 증오에 찬 눈길로 서로를 노려보고 있었다. 하지만 말은 한마디도 안했다.
이런 상황이 하루종일 계속되었는데 그다음 날도 그리고 그다음 날도 그러했다.
드디어 나흘째 되는날, 그 앵무새는 더는 참지 못하고 말했다, "오케이, 내가 졌어. 그놈의 배는 어디 있는 거야?"
